The Department of Planning and Engineering is comprised of seven basic areas: planning, engineering, development review/permitting, traffic management, permit compliance, right of way use oversight and interagency coordination.
They oversee a comprehensive list of responsibilities including:
- The continuing implementation of the District’s Comprehensive Plan;
- Development and enforcement of the Land Development Regulations;
- Development review and permitting (including planning, engineering, dewatering and erosion control permits);
- Planning, design and maintenance of the District’s horizontal infrastructure including roadways, bridges and the surface water control system;
- Administration of the District’s surface water permits;
- Administration of the District’s flood control system and municipal separate storm sewer system;
- Monitoring of all construction related activities to ensure compliance with all planning and environmental regulations;
- Traffic engineering, management and operation for District facilities;
- Maintenance of traffic, special event coordination, hauling and right of way use authorization along District facilities;
- Oversight of land management activities throughout the District;
- Interagency and intergovernmental coordination
